This product is available by prescription through veterinary clinics throughout the U.S. No illnesses have been reported.  A FDA analysis identified a positive result on the lot codes listed above.  Lot codes can be found in the lower right corner on the back of the bag.

Consumers who have purchased dry cat food with these codes should discard it.  People handling dry pet food can become infected with Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with surfaces exposed to this product.  Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may have decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain.  If left untreated, pets may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting.  Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

So I have a little ‘tail wagging’ to do about someone I met at this event (did I mention how AMAZING this new facility is???   You HAVE to go visit …  and adopt!!!)  While there,  I met a very cool little girl.   Part of me wants to call her a young lady as she carried herself so well, but she really is just a little girl, and that’s what makes her story that more touching.    Her name is Sophia and she is 8 years old.   I had the opportunity to visit with her and her mother and I was so impressed with both of them.   While visiting, I learned that Sophia does something very special for animals… again, keep in mind, this girl is 8 YEARS OLD….   Sophia has been taking 10% of her allowance (I’m told from good sources that she works VERY hard for her allowance!!) and gives it to animal related organizations locally.    HOW FANTASTIC IS THAT?!

Sophia… I just want to tell you again how proud I am of you and I look forward to the positive influence you will have on animal’s lives as you grow older.    Hmmm… Maybe you can challenge your classmates or your school (maybe a ‘Triple Dog Dare’????) to pool together a percentage of THEIR allowances too and you can do a group donation!   You could all decide on which pet organization to help…      just something to think about!!!!

Economic conditions have contributed to people “dumping” their cats. Often they are left in empty houses or tossed out on some lonely road to fend for themselves.  Many have been in a home and now have to try to survive against the elements, predators and the realization that their owner just doesn’t want them anymore.  And if they become pregnant, their world is really upside down.  They must find shelter, somewhere safe to have their kittens.  Odds are always against them and the tiny kittens are in constant danger. 

Quite often, the Coalition receives calls and emails from concerned people who are feeding one or more of these cats.  They can provide food and shelter but cannot afford to have the cats spayed and neutered.  Of course, that is crucial in keeping the over population of the cats from increasing. 

The gestation period for a female is only 63 days, so a female could easily have 3 litters per year.  And an unneutered male can father untold numbers of litters in a year.  The answer is simple:  Trap the cats, take them to a Veterinarian and have them spayed or neutered, vaccinated for rabies, treated for worms, ear mites and fleas and then return them to their caretakers.  In order to do this, we need funds to make a difference, an immediate difference.
